Located in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood of SW Portland, Cascade Brewing Company was established in 1998 by Art Larrance, who has been involved in Oregon's craft beer industry since its inception. Art co-founded one of the state's first microbreweries, Portland Brewing, as well as the Oregon Brewers Festival, which today is one of the world's preeminent craft beer festivals.
Cascade Brewmaster Ron Gansberg got his start in the Northwest wine industry. He crossed over in 1986 and began an eight-year career at BridgePort Brewing Co., where he honed his brewing skills, then moved on to the equipment and engineering side of the industry. As Engineering Manager at BridgePort, Ron directed the design and installation of the 80 bbl brewhouse that is still in operation.
Ron joined Art in designing and installing Cascade's state-of-the-art 10 bbl brewing system. Since then, Ron has quietly been brewing up a reputation as one of Oregon's most innovative brewers. - a man who will likely help shape the future of Oregon beers for the next few years, as brewers like himself look to yeast and barrel-aging instead of hops to produce flavor.
Under the direction of Ron, and with the assistance of production brewers Chris Baggenstos, Jon Berry and Jeff Stanton, Cascade Brewing has developed a line of ultra-premium, oak barrel-aged, lactic-fermented Northwest Sour-Style beers that range from lambic-style fruit beers to red ales. There are typically 30 or so barrels racked in the brewery, where they age and sour for months on end.
Cascade Brewing offers year-round beers and unique seasonals at The Raccoon Lodge & Brew Pub and at select locations around town. It also sells its premium Northwest Sour-style ales in 750 ml bottles at the Raccoon Lodge and at select bottle shops throughout the Portland area. You can even stop by the Barrel House in Portland where our beers are available on tap or to go!
